Who needs a KYU number? |

A: |
Commercial (both private & for hire) vehicle
operators with a registered or combined
gross weight in excess of 59,999 lbs. that
run through Kentucky on a regular basis.
(Farm plated vehicles operating privately
are exempt.) |

What credentials need to be displayed on the
power unit? |

A: |
(1) IFTA or KIT decals.
(2) The DOT number must be displayed on the
power unit. The display of the KYU number is
optional if the company has registered the
DOT and/or MC with the state. The KYU number
must still be maintained. However, the KYU
number is required to be displayed, in
addition to the DOT number, if the vehicle
is leased from a leasing company and the
leasing company is paying the KYU taxes.
